David Brown – FCA – Partner
Classified as a general practitioner, Dave also specializes in Auditing. Thomas David have always been respected as auditors whilst being very competitive on audit fees. Dave has specialist knowledge and experience in mergers and acquisitions and undertaking due diligence. Also, many of Dave’s clients are professional sportsmen. As senior partner, Dave will always ensure that his staff will give the very best service at all times.
Dave was an apprentice and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Trevor Jones in Waltham Cross. Later he became a partner at Trevor Jones in 1981 at the young age of 27. Dave is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and in 1988 Dave and his partner Tommy Mines left Trevor Jones to set up Thomas David.
Dave has many sporting interests amongst which are still playing cricket for his local club St Margaretsbury, for Hertfordshire over 50’s and 60’s teams, and he is a member of the MCC. He has been Chairman and latterly President of his own club. He follows England rugby, Spurs football and horse racing. He has a wife, 4 grown up children and now a grandson and lives locally.
Huw Davies – Partner
Huw started working for Thomas David in May 2000 as an accountant after 16 years in banking. He became a partner in April 2004.
Huw is highly proficient with SAGE and other forms of accounting software. He is an affiliate member of the ICAEW and a member of the Audit and Assurance Faculty of the ICAEW.
Huw is a big rugby fan and also coaches youth rugby at Cheshunt Rugby Club. He likes most sports, participating in running, cycling and skiing.
Tommy Mines – FCA – Partner
Tommy was articled in London to his father’s accountants in 1959 at the age of 16. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1964 aged 21 and spent the next 2 years working for Price Waterhouse in London. He then joined Trevor Jones and was made a partner in 1967, and remained there until 1988 when Thomas David was set up. Dave Brown was Tommy’s first articled clerk.
As an articled clerk Tommy received excellent training in auditing, accounting and taxation and the firm had a first place in the final ICAEW examination while he was there. At Price Waterhouse Tommy worked on the audits of some of the largest UK quoted companies and in his time at Trevor Jones dealt with the sale of 3 businesses to quoted public companies. He was senior partner at Thomas David until 2001, when he decided to concentrate on taxation matters and he set up a branch office in Bengeo with the help of his wife Vicki, who had joined Thomas David from the beginning, and had been office manager. Tommy now deals with personal taxation for a wide range of clients’, including high net worth and non-domiciled individuals. He also deals with a large number of trusts, and visit’s the Channel Islands on a regular basis to deal with those based offshore and the UK tax affairs of offshore companies.
Tommy when younger played football, golf and cricket but his main physical activity is now walking his dog(s). He has supported Arsenal since the age of 6, and also enjoys watching cricket. Tommy and Vicki love travelling and the highlight was a trip to Antarctica in 2008. He was also a school governor at two special needs schools in Hertfordshire. He lives in Bengeo with wife Vicki and they have 3 grown up sons and 4 grandchildren.
Mandy Brown – Partner
Mandy started working for Dave Brown at Trevor Jones in June 1984 as a junior accountant. She qualified as an Accounting Technician in 1986 and continued to train and gain experience from the work she undertook on a daily basis. Mandy accompanied Dave when he joined Tommy Mines in 1988 to set up Thomas David and was honoured when she was asked to join the partnership in April 2004.
Mandy is a reliable and approachable member of the team and is responsible for a large portfolio of clients with specialism in the preparation of Solicitors Accounts Rules and accounts and reviews of Residential Management Companies. She is an affiliate member of the ICAEW, a member of the Audit and Assurance Faculty of the ICAEW as well as a member of the Special Interest Group in relation to Solicitors Accounts Rules.
In her spare time, Mandy continues to look after her 2 teenage children and enjoys singing with the Hertford Rock Choir. She also loves baking (especially wedding cakes) and cycling.
